The 2020 ICC T20 tournament was originally scheduled to be hosted by Australia, and the 2021 tournament by India. In July 2020 however, both tournaments were postponed by a year because of the COVID–19 pandemic. India were appointed as hosts of the 2020 tournament, to be played in 2021, but it was actually played in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. Australia were appointed as hosts of the 2021 tournament, to be played in 2022.
